Unlikely Reversible MA-1

In a unique twist from Unlikely, we have taken a vintage American military flight jacket, MA-1, and added elements of a Yokosuka souvenir jacket to create an item that can be worn reversibly.
In order to recreate the worn-in feel that is unique to vintage MA-1 jackets, the width is wide and the length is short.
The distinctive A-side has an MA-1 design but is made of velour material, while the B-side makes use of the MA-1 lining but adds hand warmer pockets on the sides, making it possible to wear both sides.
A flight jacket, which is military work wear, and a Yokosuka jacket, which is casual wear and a souvenir.
This item has an "ON&OFF" theme, allowing you to enjoy two opposing elements in one piece.

Side A: Shankar velvet sulfur dyed. A short-pile dobby fabric made from velvet with a cotton blend.
By cutting the pile so finely that the ribbing like corduroy is not visible, we have created a flat, fuzzy fabric with a subtle sheen and luster.
The cutting process makes the fabric feel thicker than it appears.
It is a rare material because it takes more time and effort to cut than corduroy.
The unique rough color and fading of the sulfur dyeing process, as well as the changes that occur over time, are also attractive. The fine texture of the fabric makes it easy to express deep colors.
The presence of the fabric is accentuated by weaving in as many weft threads as possible.
Washing the fabric brings out the luster and fading of the sulfur dye, bringing out the best in the fabric.
Both the weaving and dyeing are done domestically (Shizuoka Prefecture), making this a product that shines with the delicacy that is unique to Japan.

Side B is made of high-density nylon twill warp yarn made of 70D semi-dull high multi-purpose yarn, and weft yarn made of 210D regular yarn.
By increasing the density of the threads to 326 threads per inch, we have created a smooth and firm fabric.
It has a sheen finish to prevent chalk marks and adds an elegant luster.
By washing the fabric and giving it a soft finish, the stiffness typical of nylon twill has been reduced, resulting in a smooth and soft texture.
