Bridle leather is a type of leather created in Europe for use in horse tack. It is highly durable and develops a beautiful luster and suppleness with use. Cowhide is tanned with natural tannins and finished by applying waxes such as beeswax, tallow, and vegetable oil to the leather. The white powder (bloom) that floats on the surface of bridle leather is a type of wax that has soaked into the leather. With use, the bloom seeps in and creates a beautiful luster and texture. Bloom varies from piece to piece, with some blooming violently and others barely blooming. If it bothers you, wipe it off with a soft cloth or brush.
