Collection: NEEDLES-test

NEEDLES is a Tokyo-based brand that freely crosses over American vintage, military and sports tastes, and reconstructs them with high Japanese technology. With over 30 years of travel and discovery as a background, the brand offers clothing that combines unique aesthetics and functionality.

BRAND PHILOSOPHY

Keizo Shimizu, the founder of NEPENTHES and designer of NEEDLES, opened a vintage shop in Shibuya, Tokyo in 1988, which was the origin of the brand, and launched NEEDLES in 1997. The brand name also means "necessary" and pursues "beauty without excess." The brand continues to express itself by emphasizing the "necessity" of materials, details and construction, assimilating American preppy, workwear and hippie culture.

DESIGNERS

Keizo Shimizu traveled the world as a buyer for NEPENTHES, absorbing the essence of vintage and American culture. Through these experiences, NEEDLES has made it its motto to create "clothes that don't actually exist but give a sense of reality." When the company was first founded, it started with epochal items that reinterpreted the 60s jackets worn by Miles Davis, and later developed sub-labels such as the "Track Suit" and "Rebuild" lines, deepening its clothing creation that emphasizes functionality and story.

PRODUCT CHARACTERISTICS

NEEDLES products exude unique individuality, utility, and a sense of beauty.

  • Respect for American culture: Multi-layered cultures such as Ivy League, work, military, and hippies are used as materials
  • Reflected in the color motif.
  • Exquisite tailoring through domestic production: Utilizing Japanese sewing techniques, we have achieved a texture and structure that will last for a long time.
  • Iconic line:
    • “Sportswear”: The butterfly-motif tracksuit is also popular with celebrities such as A$AP Rocky.
    • “Rebuild by Needles”: Vintage deadstock is disassembled and re-sewn to create one-of-a-kind deconstructed pieces.
