In 2003, a collaboration between Adidas and designer Yohji Yamamoto saw the birth of "Y-3."
The Y in the brand name stands for Yohji Yamamoto, and the 3 stands for the three stripes of Adidas. The brand is a condensed version of Yohji Yamamoto's desire to "make sportswear elegant and chic, and to create something that had never existed before." The brand is a pioneering attempt to "combine sportswear and fashion" by combining functionality and fashion.
